Trapped Chilean Miners Waiting for Rescue

Families of the miners sat around  a fire to warm themselves. Image from Associated Press

I was watching the news earlier. World news featured the Chilean miners who were trapped underground for almost two thousand feet since last August. It could have been a very scary experience. The workers at the at a San Jose mine were starting to prepare casing tubes after a successful drilling of an escape hole, which is about 622  meters deep for the 33 trapped miners.

It is amazing that the miners have managed to stay alive after almost three months underground. The actual attempt to get the miners out will start on Tuesday. Hopefully, they survive the tormenting situation.
