Finally, after 18 days of civil protest, President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt has resolved to step down from office. Vice President Omar Suleiman has announced Mubarak’s decision through television. Meanwhile, a military council takes over the government until the Presidential election in September of this year.
The protesters in Tahrir Square are rejoicing after hearing the development. Finally, their president has succumbed to public outcry. Egyptians are waving their flags as they dance in the streets in jubilation. They have high hopes that they will have a government of their choice, just and democratic that will institute political and socio-economic reforms.
Political analysts see a better Egypt for the young Egyptians who demand reforms for their country however; they express concern about the military take over. They hope that the next government would not be another Mubarak.
Here is another living evidence of the power that resides in the people. When they get together and move as one, they can shake the world and even the very foundation of the seat of power.
