Have you ever thought what your life would be if you don't know how to read or write? How can you go on with your life in this day and age if you can't even appreciate a computer? Imagine life without Facebook! How miserable!
Kidding aside, if you can read this, that's good for you. However, millions out there remain illiterate, primarily in third world countries where people continue to languish in poverty. Maybe bloggers like us can do something to help in our own little way. Perhaps, we can join the effort of Bloggers Unite for the International Literacy Day.
Bloggers Unite is a community of bloggers. It aims to take advantage of the influence of electronic media over people around the world about significant matters that affect them. It is an attempt to make this world a better place for all of us. It “asks bloggers to write about a particular subject on 1 day of the month, a single voice can be joined with thousands to help make a difference; from raising awareness for cancer, to an effort to better education systems or supporting 3rd world countries.” (http://www.bloggersunite.org/about, paragraph 1)
Bloggers Unite also welcomes donations from those who can give even a small amount from their hearts for the purpose of buying books and educational materials for children.
Let us raise the awareness of people regarding the issue of literacy. Let us not just be happy that we can read; let us also help others enjoy the fruits of literacy.
