Angelina Jolie and the World Refugee Day

While I am watching TV last night, I have been surprised to see a video by the famous Hollywood actress, Angelina Jolie regarding the World Refugee Day, which is today. I have not known that she is United Nations High Commission for Refugees’ ambassador for goodwill since the year 2001. She is calling on the people around the world to make an effort to know what is happening around the world that forces people to take refuge and safety in other countries and what they can do to help.

Many people around the world suffer from political oppression, police atrocities and even economic despondency, which force them to seek refuge and move to other places or countries where they would feel safe, improve their standard of living, and give their children better opportunities.

A big number of refugees in the European Union are Afghan and Somali refugees, fleeing from the atrocities of war and political unrest in their respective countries. A study states that many see Europe as a place that offers a quality of life that they could find in their home countries in spite of the difficulties that they may experience as foreigners.

The UNHCR aims to inform people around the world about the story of refugees and those organizations that actively help alleviate their condition. This is an attempt to create awareness among nations and peoples and invite them to take part in helping those people.
