Is It Judgment Day Today?

Harold Camping, a radio evangelist of Family Radio.Com in America has predicted that May 21, 2011 is Judgment Day. According to media reports, has based his theory on mathematical calculations and symbolisms in the Bible. In addition, the events pertaining to natural calamities that have been devastating in recent months seem to corroborate his theory.

Scientists tend to disagree with his theory saying that there is no scientific basis regarding his claim. Perhaps, the claim is spiritual in nature and science has always been skeptical about religious beliefs. Scientists estimate that the earth has a life span of approximately 13 billion years according to their study of planets and stars. Right now, the earth is 5 billion years old so we seem to have a long way to go.

As I have stated in my past posts, I do not believe in superstitious beliefs but I will not condemn the evangelist’s prophetic utterance. I believe in God and I know that the time will come when He will return to judge the living and the dead. God has not said when it would be exactly so I believe that we should prepare for that wondrous event whenever it might be. The question is, “Are you ready?”

If Christ comes today as He has promised, then it would be a joyful event for all believers but if not, the true believers will eagerly wait for Him whenever He chooses to fulfill the promise of eternal salvation for those who believe. I guess, it is not something to be scared about but a glorious event that we would all want to wait and see.
