Microsoft Acquires Skype

I have many friends who are using Skype for internet video and voice chat. I have not tried it yet and I have noticed that I do not have even a Yahoo Messenger installed on my computer for quite a while now. I am not really a “chat” person so I do not feel an ardent necessity of getting one but I acknowledge the importance of software applications like Skype and YM in establishing connection between people for business or personal recreation.

Recently, I have heard over a radio tech newscast that Microsoft has acquired Skype for $8.5 billion just last May 10, 2011. According to information, it is a 300% increase in its value for the past three years following the eBay write down in 2007 and that is 32 times its operating profits.
Skype will now become a division within Microsoft.

I just do not know how the acquisition will affect the users. I hope it will open a way for more innovative development to the application.
