Dan Wheldon: IndyCar Racer

Dan Wheldon
Dan Wheldon, a prominent British IndyCar racer has died from a freak car crash in the 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He has died at a young age of 33 because of head trauma.

It is sad that his flourising career in car racing has ended abruptly. This only shows how dangerous these car races are to the racers. Well, it seems that even thick and tough racing helmets are not enough to protect the head from trauma injury. I’m sure they all know that but they enjoy running at more than 200mph with their great cars. The thrill and excitement must be very enjoyable but the little mistake will be fatal literally.

Wheldon’s interest with racing has begun in his childhood. He has started karting at the age of four and eventually has leveled up to the junior ranks of car racing in his teens. However, his family could no longer afford the financial demands of the sport in England, so he has had to move to America where he has joined lower open-wheeled circuits at the start. The rest is history.

Dan Wheldon is a great racer but accidents do not respect fame, I guess. I hope racing tracks would become safer to riders.
